A little about me

I'm Bassam Al Maleh Al Qahtani, a senior electrical design and industrialization engineer at alfanar Electric's medium-voltage RMU factory in Riyadh. I turn released product data into production-ready switchgear across five MV families — 17.5 to 36 kV; conventional, compact, smart, motorized and SF6-free.

I own Smart RMU control-circuit design and I/O integration: RTU and relay selection, DI/DO definition, CT/VT and sensor interfaces, and hardwired wiring over RS485 with DNP3 / IEC 60870-5-104 — carrying designs through FAT/QC closure and production buy-off. Alongside that, I've been driving the digitalization of our units: QR-linked asset passports and a complete 18-variant engraved rating-label system.

I've delivered multi-million SAR in VAVE savings proven through Production and QC, and I'm currently transitioning a new 24 kV dry-air / SF6-free line from R&D release into production.

    Senior Electrical Design Engineer — RMU Design / Industrialization — alfanar Electric

    Riyadh, Saudi Arabia · promoted from Electrical Design Engineer

    • Delivered multi-million SAR in VAVE / material-optimization savings — CT sensor redesign, adaptor removal, spiral tube-wrap optimization, CT ferrule change, RS485 cable reduction and scrap-cable elimination — each change proven through Production and QC.
    • Transitioning a new product from prototype to production: 24 kV dry-air / SF6-free RMU industrialization — closing gaps in drawing readiness, component data, RTU I/O alignment and BOM readiness ahead of volume build.
    • Define and integrate Smart RMU control systems — RTU/relay selection, DI/DO lists, CT/VT/sensor interfaces and hardwired control circuits over RS485 with DNP3 / IEC 60870-5-104 — directing programming and settings scope to the Testing team.

A digital identity for every switchgear unit: scanning the engraved QR on a Ring Main Unit's rating label opens a live asset passport — serial number, product constants, verification status — turning a steel plate into a connected product record.
